It describes the passing of light and how it affects various elements in\u003cbr\u003enature:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe light passes\u003cbr\u003eFrom ridge to ridge,\u003cbr\u003eFrom flower to flower—\u003cbr\u003eThe hepaticas, wide-spread\u003cbr\u003eUnder the light\u003cbr\u003eGrow faint—\u003cbr\u003eThe petals reach inward,\u003cbr\u003eThe blue tips bend\u003cbr\u003eToward the bluer heart\u003cbr\u003eAnd the flowers are lost.\u003cbr\u003eThe cornel-buds are still white,\u003cbr\u003eBut shadows dart\u003cbr\u003eFrom the cornel-roots—\u003cbr\u003eBlack creeps from root to root,\u003cbr\u003eEach leaf\u003cbr\u003eCuts another leaf on the grass,\u003cbr\u003eShadow seeks shadow,\u003cbr\u003eThen both leaf\u003cbr\u003eand leaf-shadow are lost.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEvening attempts to illustrate how these various elements are affected by the passing of light. The use of various extended techniques suggests light's mysterious and poignant qualities. The movement of light is also suggested by the work's form, making use of multitemporal sections.
