Igniting Kites & Flying Fireworks (2015) aims to evoke a sense of speed and vigour – often found when flying kites or watching fireworks. It harnesses traditional features of baroque French overtures, such as opening's strident use of dotted rhythm. These dotted rhythms are inverted to better evoke the feeling of urgency. This is taken over by the counter-theme, which poses a lighter, comical stance. The opening first section is then concluded with both themes sounding simultaneously, placed within a strongly tonal harmonic environment, which further enhances the work's sense of joyful celebration.
